Keller Hockey Club Conducts Fundraiser
The Keller ISD Hockey Club is hosting a fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the Sonic Drive-in at 2009 S. Main Street (U.S. 377) in Keller.
According to a news release, "tips received will benefit the hockey club for the upcoming 2008-2009 season."
Nadadores Capture Fourth Place at State Meet
The North Texas Nadadores swim team recently had its best showing ever at the Texas Age Group Long Course Swimming Championship, finishing fourth place overall in the state.
The Nadadores sent 40 swimmers to the July 23-27 meet in Austin, which had nearly 1,000 participants from more than 60 teams.
In a news release, coach Heather Maher said, "I am extremely proud of this hard-working group of boys and girls. While many other kids their age spend the summer relaxing, these swimmers have been practicing every day, many times twice a day.
"It is great to see their dedication and team work pay off in this terrific result."
Some of the standout performers included Adrian Maher, 10, Jason Head, 11, Ted Singley, 14, and Elise Weisert, 13, all of whom earned at least one gold medal at the event.
The Nadadores draw athletes from Southlake, Grapevine, Colleyville and Keller.
Carroll Girls Help TAV Asics 15 to Third Place Finish
Audrey Defferari, Olivia Miano and Maddie Aufricht of Carroll High School recently competed with their club volleyball team TAV Asics 15 in the National Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships in Dallas, helping the team to a third-place finish.
This was the first year the TAV 15 team ever received a medal at the national competition.
TAV Asics 15 won three national qualifying tournaments throughout the season.
Former GHS Baseball Standout to Play For Dallas Baptist
Michael LaCourse, a Grapevine High School graduate who signed to play with Tyler Junior College out of high school, recently received a scholarship to play for Dallas Baptist University.
LaCourse was selected as a third team NJCAA All-American, finishing his sophomore season at Tyler Junior College with an 8-4 record, 3.29 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched.
According to a news release, "In 2007, LaCourse went 8-0 and was first team all NJCAA World Series Team in helping the Apaches win their first ever National Championship."
Batbusters Place Fourth at National Tourney
The Fort Worth 96 Batbusters softball team recently took fourth place at the USSSA 11U National Tournament in Longview.
The team practices at Bob Jones Park in Southlake, and team members are from the surrounding cities.
The Batbusters defeated teams from Arkansas, California, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas en route to the finish at the tournament.
Team members include Tori Hernandez, McKenzie Brewer, Amanda Lockhart, Haley Gray, Kaitlyn Cooper, Bailey Brewer, Sydnee Hinkle, Lyndsay Christensen, Victoria Eakman, Lori Davis and Bailey Ferguson.
The team is coached by Barb Brewer, Kevin Ferguson, Donnie Lockart and head coach Brad Bryson.
