Carroll High School student Austin Scott, 16, recently earned his Eagle Scout rank. Austin designed and constructed six shelving units for the United Services Organization [USO] at DFW Airport. The shelves are used by the "United Through Reading Military Program" to store books and benefit children of troops serving overseas.
Austin is a member of Troop 928 of White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake. He has earned more than 40 merit badges and served in many leadership positions including troop patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and troop quartermaster.
Some of the other special awards he has earned include God and Church and God and Life, the 150-miler award this past summer for canoeing the Canadian boundary waters while at the High Adventure camp Northern Tier.
This summer Austin will attend the High Adventure camps Philmont and Sea Base to complete the Triple Crown Award.
Austin is the son of Debby and Gary Scott of Southlake and the grandson of Mae Pearl and Bill Powers of Grapevine, and Patricia and Everett Scott of Mineola and the late Jimmie Scott of Grapevine.
