City Closes Two Boat Ramps as Lake Levels Drop
By Scott Price
Staff Writer
The city of Grapevine has closed two boat ramps at Grapevine Lake because the lake level has dropped six feet below normal. Rainfall in the last several months has been below normal. The lake is used for municipal water by Dallas-area cities and by Grapevine.
As of Nov. 11, Grapevine had received 26.31 inches of rainfall for the year, and 4.91 inches of that fell this week according to the National Weather Service. In an average year, Grapevine receives 30.58 inches of rain. Even with the recent rain, the lake level rose only one foot.
As a result, the boat ramps at Scott’s Landing and at Meadowmere Park have been closed, and more ramps could be closed soon, said Joe Moore, Grapevine Parks and Recreation assistant director.
Seven other public boat ramps are still open on the lake, as well as a boat ramp for campers at the Vineyards Campground."We have been through this before," Moore said. "The only constant about the lake, is there is no constant."
See www.ci.grapevine.tx.us and go to the Parks and Recreation page for information about boat ramps at Grapevine Lake.
