Almost a century has past since Mary Virginia Wall was born on August 31, 1910. She lived her entire life in the Grapevine area, a life of service to her family, church, school and community.
It may take a while to realize that she is no longer going to be able to share her astute recollections of local history. She leaves a unique legacy.
The Colleyville Police Department and Colleyville Fire Department are each accepting applicants for their citizen academies. The Colleyville Citizens’ Police Academy is forming the seventh class, which runs from Jan. 22 to April 6, and will give Colleyville residents a chance to see how the police department works. People who work in Colleyville and those who belong to Colleyville civic organizations are also eligible to take the class.
Colleyville Police Officer Bill Hudgins said the course benefits the city by introducing the public to new ways of volunteering in the community and in helping make Colleyville a safer place to live and work.
Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate said the downturn in the economy in 2008 was troubling and has put some city projects on hold.
Despite this, the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center was able to begin a major $310 million expansion project in 2008.
Nominations for the D.E. Box Citizen of the Year Award are being accepted by the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce.
The nomination deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 9.
Grapevine High School senior Katie Otano has been accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
"I signed on Christmas Eve," she said. "It was a nice Christmas gift."
Colleyville
DEC. 18: 5:50 a.m., police were called to ReCept Pharmacy, 5100 Texas 121, to investigate a burglary, in which thieves broke a door lock [$50] and stole at least 750 prescription pills, mostly hydrocodone, a medication for pain.
A 32-year-old man was arrested last week at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine for indecency with an 8-year-old girl by sexual contact.
Michael Shaw, a Cleburne resident, was arrested on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 26, after an 8-year-old girl reported that Shaw had fondled her breast.
Mueller
The finalists for the Colleyville city manager position have been narrowed to two: Jennifer Fadden, former Weatherford city manager, and Matthew Mueller, current assistant city manager in Claremore, Okla.
Approximately 100 inquiries were received with about 80 serious prospects for the Colleyville city manager position, according to Strategic Government Resources, the Keller-based executive search firm hired by the city of Colleyville.

Two finalists — one male and one female — have been named for the Colleyville city manager position, Colleyville officials announced this week.
Jennifer M. Fadden, former city manager of the city of Weatherford, and Mathew J. Mueller, assistant city manager/director of operations in Claremore, Okla., are the two finalists for the job.
