The pipeline will be 24-inch in diameter and be 8 feet under ground. The hole for the pipeline will be bored to prevent the ground from being dug up along the trench.
The agreement is for 30 years for a payment of $51,675. In addition, Mid-Stream Gas is donating $23,325 for the construction of restrooms at Bear Creek Park. The total cost of the restrooms is expected to be $75,000, city officials said.
The pipeline also crosses land that is privately owned, and will connect with a natural gas well at D/FW Airport, officials said.
Grapevine City Manager Bruno Rumbelow said the city has not had any applications for natural gas drilling yet. In other action:
The council, in a workshop, decided to drop a proposal to eliminate some of the news racks in the city.
Some Grapevine City Council members pointed out that areas of Grapevine have become cluttered with news racks, which include newspapers, shoppers and other publications.
Rumbelow said regulating the racks could be complicated.
“[The Council] came to the conclusion that they didn’t want to regulate it,” Rumbelow said.
The council held two workshops about regulating the publications. Some of the ideas discussed included requiring stacked news racks, allowing the stands only in designated areas, and issuing permits for news racks.
In other council activity, Dan Truex, the city’s economic development director, gave an update on the undeveloped land along the Texas 26 and Texas 360 corridors.
Texas 26, in northeast Grapevine, has about 660 acres available for development, or 57 percent of the land in that area.
Texas 360, mostly in the southern part of Grapevine, has 380 acres of undeveloped land, or 65 percent of the land left in that area.
